Solution-based fullerene-free route enables high-performance green-selective organic photodetectors

Abstract Ongoing developments in machine vision, wearables, and the Internet of Things have led to strong demand for easy-to-fabricate, color-selective photodetectors. Narrowband-absorption-type (NBA) printable organic photodetectors provide an attractive solution, given their spectral robustness fabrication simplicity. However, a key remaining challenge realizing potential is concurrently achieve high photoconversion efficiency selectivity. Herein, this tackled by investigating non-fullerene-based route green-selective, solution-based Soluble phthalocyanine acceptor PhO-Cl 6 BsubPc considered due its absorption selectivity green photons. Blends with soluble quinacridones are pursued realize ideal donor:acceptor layer selectively absorbing target photons throughout volume. A latent-pigment deposition linear trans -quinacridone (QA) enables well-intermixed QA:PhO-Cl layers. Green-selective cutting-edge performance thus realized, achieving 25% increase external quantum compared all prior NBA implementations, as well nearly five-fold enhancement green-to-blue rejection ratio. The merit approach further illustrated comparison corresponding fullerene-based By demonstrating selectivity, study represents important step toward printable, high-performance color sensors imagers.
